One Health: efficiency of public health actions and reduction of risks to global health

The concept of One Health, was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and features an integrated vision that considers the interdependence inseparable between human health, animal health and environmental health. Juliana Ribas, production coordinator at Agroceres PIC, master in Animal Production at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) explains that the concept argues that there is a very close link between the environment, diseases in animals and human health. “So, it is very important to discuss it, because the interactions between humans and animals happen in different environments and in different ways”.

The concept of One Health allows us to carry out research, define policies, legislation and the implementation of programs, in which different sectors communicate and work collaboratively in actions to reduce risks and maintain health. This integration contributes to the efficiency of actions in Public Health, with a reduction in risks to global health. Due to the importance of the theme, AveSui offers a panel totally free and open to the public, which will be coordinated by Juliana.

According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), about 60% of human diseases have animal participation in their cycle, so they are zoonotic, as well as 70% of emerging and reemerging diseases. “In this way, the concept of Unique Health contributes to the definition of lines of research and adoption of effective public policies and programs for the prevention and control of diseases that can be addressed at the local, regional, national and global levels”, added Juliana

Panel

Juliana says that the main points to be addressed in the Panel are:

1- How the government and official spheres have been working on this issue of Unique Health and what is the importance of this concept for animal production.

2- What is the current situation and how to promote the rational use of antimicrobials, both in the animal and human spheres. These two themes are closely linked.

3- Bring a vision of human health through a lecture by an infectologist to explain how the dynamics of disease transmission around the world has happened and how it affects us here in Brazil.

4- Approach, from the perspective of a human health specialist, the concept of Single Health, focusing on the different links of the theme.

The panel will be held on the second day of the event, in the afternoon.
